Schall & Ashenfarb, CPA's has been serving the accounting community for over 30 years and prides itself on having the hands-on style of a small firm with the resources and quality of a larger, regional firm. Our primary niche of working with not-for-profit organizations allows us to hire and retain professionals that specialize in this unique industry. We also have a more traditional side of the practice that works with clients in commercial industries that include arts and entertainment such as Broadway and Off-Broadway Theater, touring theatrical productions, legal, medical and other professional service firms, professionals and self-employed individuals and more. We provide financial statement preparation, accounting and tax planning services for these clients.

Partner Profiles

Ira Schall, CPA is the managing partner. He has his B.S. in Accounting from Brooklyn College. He is a CPA and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). His areas of practice include entertainment, not-for-profit organizations, tax planning, consulting to small businesses that need a strong hands on presence and financial planning.


David Ashenfarb, CPA is the Director of our Not-For-Profit Industry Group. He has his B.B.A in Accounting from Pace University. He is a past Chairman of the Not-For-Profit Organizations Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the AICPA. He appeared as a speaker for numerous organizations, including the Charities Bureau, the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, the Human Services Council, UNH, and the Foundation for Accounting Education, where he is a regular member of the expert panel to answer other practitioners' accounting and auditing questions. David has written numerous articles on not-for-profit matters in publications such as The Executive's Guide to Nonprofit Governance- published by the American Society of Corporate Secretaries and the American Bar Association, The CPA Journal and The Trusted Professional. 

David is also an adjunct professor at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College where he has developed a graduate level course on not-for-profit accounting, auditing, and management.

Mike Schall, CPA is the Director of Tax Services responsible for reviewing the tax filing for all our not-for-profit clients and performs a review of unrelated business income to ensure compliance with regulations of the Internal Revenue Service. Additional areas of practice include auditing and tax services in the entertainment industry. He is a member of both the AICPA and the NYSSCPA's, where currently serves as the Chairman of the Exempt Organizations committee. Michael has appeared as a speaker for the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, volunteers his time with several charitable organizations, and sits on the audit committee of a national membership organization.
